Climate
For Koskisen, the material climate-related aspects are climate change mitigation, energy use, and the management of greenhouse gas emissions. Operations are examined comprehensively across the entire value chain, from wood procurement to production and customer products.
Climate impacts arise particularly from wood procurement and transport logistics, as well as from production processes. Adhesives and coatings used in panel products also generate emissions over their life cycle. On the other hand, long-lasting wood products store carbon throughout their entire life cycle, and forest management services support forest growth and carbon sequestration.
Koskisen continuously develops solutions that reduce climate impacts and support customers in achieving their emission reduction targets. One example is products where fossil-based raw materials are replaced with bio-based alternatives.
Energy use is a significant part of climate impacts, and its efficiency is developed on a long-term basis. Emissions are monitored in line with the GHG Protocol, and reductions are guided by a roadmap towards carbon neutrality. The goal is a continuous transition toward lower-emission and fossil-free operations in co-operation with other actors in the value chain.
Koskisen has defined its climate-related targets in its responsibility program and reports on their implementation as part of the annual report included in the financial statements, where key actions are also presented.
