Resource use and circular economy
Koskisen utilizes wood raw material efficiently throughout the value chain – from procurement to production and through to the end of product life. The aim is to extend the use of materials, reduce the need for virgin raw materials, and support the principles of the circular economy.
All parts of raw wood are put to use. The main share is processed into products, while side streams such as sawdust and logging residues are used in panel production and bioenergy generation. This saves primary raw materials and replaces fossil fuels. Recyclability is also considered in procurement and product design.
Resource efficiency creates opportunities for cost savings and the development of new products. At the same time, risks are recognized, such as the scarcity of key raw materials and regulatory changes that may affect material use. Growing demand for wood-based, reusable products offers significant market opportunities. Koskisen has defined its objectives for resource use and the circular economy in its responsibility program and reports on their implementation as part of the annual report included in the financial statement, where key measures are also described.
