Koskisen Corporation press release, 20 December 2022, at 10:00 a.m. EET
A wood product company Koskisen invests in a new spindleless veneer peeling line at the plywood mill located in Järvelä, Finland. The new peeling line improves the use of wood raw material and the possibilities of using a smaller log diameter in the veneer production. The value of the investment is approximately EUR 2 million.
The new line will be built alongside the current peeling lines. The spindleless peeling line will be implemented as a complete delivery and its installations will start in August 2023. The goal is to have the new line put into operation at the end of 2023.
"The new peeling line improves the raw material yield in the plywood mill and renews the manufacturing process with a modern solution," says Koskisen's project manager Kimmo Ahonen.
One of Koskisen's key strategic themes is material efficiency and the full utilization of wood raw material at different stages of the value chain. The investment supports the implementation of the company's strategy and creates a basis for increasing an automation level of the plywood manufacturing process.
"Since the new line is fully automatized, it is expected to be very cost-effective. Thanks to its energy efficiency, its carbon footprint is also small," adds Ahonen.
In the production, Koskisen systematically invests in solutions where wood raw material can be used efficiently, regardless of the size category. Thus, it will be possible to utilize smaller log diameters for the manufacturing of products that retain carbon for a long time. This also diversifies the opportunities in terms of raw material availability.
