Koskisen Oyj is aware that the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) requires that when products are placed on the market, it is demonstrated that there is no deforestation or forest degradation in accordance with the Regulation in their production chain. In practice, this is done through due diligence systems described by companies, as well as reference numbers accompanying the raw material or product, which can be produced from the EU’s Traces system.
There have been uncertainties in the implementation of the EUDR and there have been no clarifying guidelines from the Commission and the competent authority. The problem is global and does not only affect Finland. The EU has decided to give companies more time to prepare. The Act will apply to large and medium-sized enterprises, such as Koskisen, on 30 December 2025.
In Finland, the law on the implementation of the EUDR is expected to be completed during 2025. The authority supervising the law nationally is the Finnish Food Authority. Koskisen is preparing for the application of the Act during 2025. The additional information available during the transition period will ensure that uniform and sufficient practices are implemented in the industry.
With regard to preparedness, Koskisen engages in dialogue both internally and externally with its partners so that during 2025 Koskisen will be ready to meet the requirements of the law. It should be noted that Koskisen Corporation already complies with laws and does not cause deforestation or forest degradation through its operations. Koskisen does not need to change any operations in order to meet the requirements of the EUDR. Although we are yet unable to provide reference numbers, our products are legal and deforestation-free.
